This is the first of three alternatives for a poster design for the Lincoln Trail Domestic Violence Program, Inc.

The photography shows a female exposed and naked in an embryonic position curled up in an oyster shell.

The nudity symbolizes the vulnerability of women in an abusive relationship, the position a retreat to an embryo-like state, the wish to disappear, curl up, be invisible.

The shell is a symbol for the "shell" these women live their "secret" life in, hiding their wounds from the outside world and a metaphor for the beauty and uniqueness each woman/individual beholds, like a pearl in an oyster shell.
